ICHC App will return soon

Cheezburger Networks finally has an App Store account, and we’re in the process of setting up provisioning so I can resubmit the app. When it returns, it will be listed under Cheezburger Networks and will no longer be sold by me.

UPDATE: It will be listed under Pet Holdings. It’s built with the new app ID & provisioning, and will hopefully be submitted this week (I don’t have the ability to submit apps with their account).

UPDATE #2: It’s still “in progress” with no ETA. They also said:

Cheezburger disappearance

As you may have noticed, I Can Has Cheezburger app is no longer available. I have removed it from sale and it will be re-submitted by Cheezburger network when their app store account is set up. Unfortunately this means updates will no longer be available for anyone who bought the app from me. I’d rather not have people continue to buy it and then feel ripped off when they can’t update.

I will continue to develop the app as a contractor for Cheezburger networks, although I will no longer be selling it myself.

I won't has cheezburger

Cheezburger Networks would like to take control of the ICHC app and sell it themselves. They’re setting up their own developer account (in which I’ll be a team member) and will sell it under their own name.

I’m trying to figure out how to transfer that app only to a different developer account while retaining my other apps. I’ve contacted Apple DTS about it. Unfortunately it may not be possible for owners of the current version to get updates when the application is updated. Before I transfer it, I hope to release a final update replacing more custom code with standard Three20 code.

Although I’ll be losing my best selling app, I’ve been working on a new game. I can’t give any details right now, but it’s based on Cocos2d and Chipmunk physics and the artwork will be professionally designed by my other team members who are better artists than I am.

I Can Has Cheezburger Universal is ready for sale

I just got a notification email from Apple saying that I Can Has Cheezburger Universal is ready for sale. The only new feature is native iPad support & the ability to work in either landscape or portrait orientation. This is a free upgrade for owners of the pro version. Note that there is no universal upgrade for the free version, since the ads don’t scale well to the larger screen.

ICHC for iPad submitted

I have submitted I Can Has Cheezburger Pro 2.1, a universal application which runs natively on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. I haven’t updated the free version, since the ads won’t scale nicely to the full iPad screen. The only change in this version is native iPad support and the ability to work in all interface orientations.

ICHC plans for the iPad

Now that I’ve submitted PicSlide for the iPad, I’m going to start working on an iPad version of I Can Has Cheezburger. Most likely I’ll only port the pro version initially, since the ads currently don’t work properly on the larger screen. I’ll need to redesign some parts of the user interface to look good on the iPad.

PicSlide for iPad submitted

I have submitted PicSlide 1.5, a universal application that will run on both iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch running OS 3.0 or later. On the iPad, it supports all screen orientations and gives you 3 additional board sizes (10×10, 12×12, and 16×16). It probably won’t be approved until at least Apr. 3 when the iPad ships.

ICHC 2.0.1 is now available

I Can Has Cheezburger 2.0.1 is now available for sale, 48 hours after I submitted it. I strongly recommend updating to this version, since it now uses the Cheezburger featured content API instead of my scraped feed (which often went down, resulting in no pictures displayed). Note that this version is NOT compatible with OS 2.x, and this time I set the proper build options to insure that it can’t be installed on 2.x devices.

With ICHC 2.0 I mistakenly kept the deployment target as 2.0, which allowed people with unsupported systems to install it and have it crash immediately.

The OS 3.0 requirement is due to my use of Three20, which is not compatible with 2.x. Since OS 3.0 is now a free upgrade for iPod Touch users, there’s no reason to continue to support OS 2.x. I was also able to take advantage of this by producing an optimized (arm6 & arm7) build for the Pro version. Unfortunately I couldn’t build the free version optimized, since the Collider Media library isn’t arm7 compatible.

ICHC 2.0.1 Submitted

I just submitted I Can Has Cheezburger 2.0.1 with the following changes:

  • Uses featured content API instead of scraped feed
  • “There, I fixed it” replaces “Once Upon a Win”, which isn’t available with the API
  • Thumbnails are now displayed for movies
  • Deployment target properly set to 3.0 so it won’t load on 2.x devices

By using the API it will no longer depend on this server, which often goes down under heavy use resulting in no photos loading. Like 2.0, this version is NOT compatible with any OS version older than 3.0. In 2.0 I didn’t set the deployment target to 3.0, so people with older systems were still able to install it, resulting in an immediate crash (which I got about 5 emails a day about).

The application will remain unavailable until the new version is approved, because I’m sick of dealing with all of the bitching because my server goes down or because they’re using OS 2.x.
