ICHC Crash Fixed

We’ve reverted the server side change that was causing ICHC app to crash, so that problem should be fixed now. I’ve also I’m now catching unknown key exceptions in my XML handler, so it will no longer crash if it sees an unknown element.

Unfortunately this means the next version won’t include the ‘save to favorite’ feature, since old versions are still out there that WILL crash if the server sent the element necessary for favorites. I’m keeping that code in the application so it will ‘magically’ start working if we ever do make the server change.

I Can Has Crashes

We recently made a server change to support the favorites feature I’m adding to the upcoming ICHC update. Unfortunately it causes older versions of the app to crash, since it wasn’t able to handle the XML changes. The server change should be reverted soon, which will stop the crashes. We’ll probably use an alternate feed for the favorites feature.

Amazon forces Delicious Library to be removed from App Store

I love Delicious Library, both on the Mac and the iPhone, so I’m pretty disappointed by this new development.

Due to Amazon’s new contract, Delicious Monster has removed Delicious Library from the App Store. Wil Shipley says: “Delicious Library for iPhone isn’t coming back as long as we’re using Amazon’s APIs, unless they decide to make an exception to section 4e.”

Section 4e of the Amazon contract reads:

You will not, without our express prior written approval requested via this link, use any Product Advertising Content on or in connection with any site or application designed or intended for use with a mobile phone or other handheld device.

Wil also says, “I already did ask for permission, Amazon said no permission is being given right now. So, that’s that.”

I Can Has Favorites

I’ve implemented a new feature that will be in the next release of I Can Has Cheezburger Premium: Add to Favorites. You’ll need an account at icanhascheezburger.com. It will log you in and save the current item to your favorites, which you can view in your profile.

Not all items can be saved as favorites. Movies can’t be saved as favorites & it isn’t available on all network sites.

Uploading iPhone 3GS Videos to Flickr

If you’ve attempted to upload any video from an iPhone 3GS to Flickr, you’ve probably seen Flickr’s “Unable to process this video” screen no matter how you uploaded it. The iPhone’s MOV files aren’t supported by Flickr due to the codec it uses. A very simple solution is to export it as AVI from QuickTime Pro or any other media converter. You can then upload the exported AVI movies to Flickr.

I Can Has Cheezburger (free) v1.5 is now available

Apple has finally approved the free ad-supported version of I Can Has Cneezburger (v1.5), which I submitted on June 15th. This version has all of the improvements of the 99¢ premium version except it has ads from Collider Media. I’ve already submitted a 1.5.1 update of the premium version, which adds a shuffle feature & support for mailing images in OS 3.0. When that one is approved, I should have version 1.6 ready for both free & premium versions, which adds a login feature in the premium version only, and all of the 1.5.1 enhancements to the free version.

I Can Has Account Access

I’ve implemented Cheezburger authorization in the next version of ICHC Premium. By logging into ICHC, any LOLs you create in the app will be credited to you and appear in your profile, rather than as ‘dunno source’.

Since I’m still waiting for Apple to approve version 1.5 of the free ad-supported version (which I submitted on June 15) and version 1.5.1 of the premium version, which I submitted on June 28, it will probably be a while before this version is available.

With current version or free version, any LOLs you create will be uncredited.

Uncredited LOL

Any LOLs you create with the premium version when you log in will be credited to you and appear in your profile.

I Can Has Cheezburger Premium 1.5.1 submitted

I’ve just submitted the version 1.5.1 update for ICHC Premium. Apple still hasn’t approved version 1.5 of ICHC ad-supported, so I’m not updating that one yet.

This update has several major enhancements:

  • Shake to shuffle for random LOLs
  • Movies show web page immediately instead of click to play graphic
  • Action sheet no longer shows ‘save to photos’ for movies
  • Can now email images rather than just links in OS 3.0

I really enjoy the shuffle feature, and I hope everyone else likes it just as much.

The next update will further differentiate the free & premium versions by letting you log in to your ICHC account only in the premium version. That will give you proper attribution for any LOLs you create and let you save LOLs to your favorites.

I Can Has images in email

I’m now using OS 3.0’s message UI in ICHC to let you email the actual image rather than just a link. Of course if you’re running 2.x, it will still do it the old way, using mail.app and only send a link.

Since Apple still hasn’t approved the update to the free version, I’ll probably submit this as an update to the premium version in the next few days. Once version 1.5 of the free version is approved, I’ll release an update to that one as well.
