New Projects

I now have Jimi Mbaye‘s Studio Dogo site set up at DreamHost. We weren’t able to regain control of studio-dogo.com, so we now have studiodogo.com.

We’ve exchanged several emails the last few days and Jimi is interested in working on other projects.

I’m also planning to relaunch ShareYourMusic.com as a completely new professional site, as I had originally planned to do. The old GarageBand site didn’t work out well because a lot of inappropriate non-garageband stuff was being uploaded. For that reason, I finally shut it down. The new site will allow artists to maintain their own info pages and sell their music.

Header Graphic

I’ve added a simple hack to the default Kubrick theme which displays a random header graphic. Here’s how it works. I added the following function to the top of header.php:

NOTE: this must come AFTER the doctype & html lines.

Next, I changed the style element for header as follows:

Finally, I saved several header graphics in my image directory named kubrickheader0.jpg through kubrickheader7.jpg.

UPDATE: I should have specified that the code needs to come after the first two lines in header.php. I also added links for the two new pictures I added after I posted the article.

New Look

This site is now using WP 1.5 themes. I’ve converted the old appearance to a theme and I’m now using a slightly modified version of the default theme.

Studio Dogo

I’m now hosting Jimi Mbaye’s Studio Dogo site at DreamHost. Unfortuantely the previous domain owner let it lapse and the registrar won’t let me transfer the domain, so it’s now a subdomain of dreamhosters.com until I can get it straightened out.

Redesign

I’ve redesigned the entire site to take advantage of WordPress 1.5’s new page feature. I’ve converted all of the previous static content to pages, which are now stored in the database. The weblog is now the main page rather than a subdirectory, and the navigation links on the right are available in all pages.

Knocked off the web

My friend’s web hosting provider went out of business, taking his site with them. They’re holding his data and they own his domain name, so nobody can transfer it. Once everything gets straightened out, I’ll be hosting his site. I found that Dreamhost lets me create a full-fledged separate username with its own home directory to host the site, so it doesn’t have to share the same home directory with everything else, as all of my sites currently do.

More comment spam

Since yesterday, I’ve been getting a lot of EARN MONEY ONLINE comment spam from India at MacMegasite. When I see more than one spam, I take a very heavy-handed approach of blocking that person’s entire ISP or even the entire IP address range of their country if it’s in Asia. I’m now blocking several ISPs from India. I’ve also added a hack that will prevent a comment from being posted by calling die() with a nasty message if it contains certain strings unique to spam.
