I just got a MySpace music page for WorldBeatPlanet. It seems to be driving a lot of traffic to the site – I now see 4 or 5 times as many visitors as I did before.

WorldBeatPlanet Changes
I’ve made a few changes to WorldBeatPlanet. First, I’m using a new theme based on the Blix theme with some color changes. The biggest change is the WorldBeatPlanet Store is no longer a separate site – the store is now integrated with the main content. I found that the amazon_items module I was using isn’t compatible with Drupal 4.6.3 so I switched to Amazon Tools. It looks a bit nicer than the old amazon item links, but I don’t like that it now creates an additional node for the amazon item link with every product node I create.
SuprGlu
SuprGlu is an interesting new online aggregator which builds an attractive web page from all of your RSS feeds. You can now see all of the content posted at all of my sites, all of my photos from Flickr, and all of my bookmarks from del.icio.us & Digg on a single page at http://mike3k.suprglu.com/.
Random Image Theme
I’m still getting lots of email about my random image theme, so I’ve added a lot more information here explaining how it works and how to modify it. I’ll probably add a link to that page somewhere.
Yahoo Domains are a pain
I registered a domain for my condo (mirroring the current more unwieldy name) at Yahoo Domains a few days ago because their $2.97 offer was tempting.
I figured I could change the DNS records to host it at DreamHost, as I did with my other domains registered at GoDaddy or DirectNIC. I found that Yahoo’s domain control panel doesn’t give full control over editing the DNS records. I was able to change the name servers and A record, but it wouldn’t let me set up the MX records for Dreamhost. I also can’t set it up properly in DreamHost’s control panel, and now Yahoo’s control panel tells me I don’t own the domain.
This is the first and last time I’ll ever register a domain at Yahoo. It just isn’t worth $2.97 for all of the hassle, and I still don’t have it working properly.
Really lame
The entire IP address range for Indonesia is now banned from MacMegasite due to an extremely lame stunt (someone simply POSTED A FREAKIN’ ARTICLE saying “you’ve been hacked” without actually doing anything). They did the same thing on WorldBeatPlanet yesterday.
Blackout in Los Angeles
This site, as well as my other sites and everything else at DreamHost, was down for a few hours due to the blackout in Los Angeles. DreamHost’s backup power also failed.
Adding a Red Cross donate link
For anyone who’d like to add a Red Cross donate link to their page like I have, it’s done with this bit of JavaScript code:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
document.write('<div style="position: absolute; left: 100%; top: 0px; overflow: visible; height: 120px; width: 120px; margin: 0 0 0 -120px; padding: 0; z-index: 9999; border: none; float: none;"><img src="http://www.weblogsinc.com/common/media/red-cross.gif" width="120" height="120" border="0" usemap="#rc"/><map name="rc"><area shape="poly" coords="0,0,120,0,120,120" href="http://www.redcross.org/"></area></map>');
// -->
</script>
Upload the image to your server and change the URL for the graphic.
