I’m now trying out IntelliTXT at MacMegasite. That’s why you’ll see those green links with double underlines. I noticed it on a few sites, so I clicked their link to see what it was and signed up. It uses a snippet of javascript code to add to the site which will automatically add those links to keywords in the content.

MacMegasite update
I’ve eliminated the lightweight non-drupal home page and I plan to add a few new sections at MacMegasite.
WordPress 2.0
I just upgraded this site to WordPress 2.0. The upgrade was completely painless and I spent most of the time backing everything up before the upgrade. I had to sign up for a blog at wordpress.com, which I have no intention of using, so I can get an API key required for the Akismet anti-spam plugin.
End of year wrap-up
I just posted my top stories of 2005 at MacMegasite, and my top albums of 2005 at WorldBeatPlanet.
WordPress 2 Released
WordPress 2.0 has been released. I’ll probably upgrade after New Years.
MacMegasite Mobile
I created a new mobile home page for MacMegasite that looks better on small screens like a PSP. It’s at www.macmegasite.com/mobile.
Guess who has a blog
It had to happen sooner or later. Tim Berners-Lee has a blog and he’s using Drupal.
Mac Mini co-location
One option I’m considering for hosting MacMegasite would be co-locating my Mac Mini somewhere. I’d still like to be able to host my email, DNS, and other services (maybe even MySQL) at DreamHost with the CPU-intensive processing running on my Mac Mini.
I may need a new web host
I may need to find a new web hosting company. I love DreamHost and I’ve had no problems with them, but my sites are using too much CPU time. I’ve received several warnings about MacMegasite from them like the following:
Unfortunately it appears that your site is using more than your
fair share of system resources on your shared hosting machine
jezebel. Our system has flagged your account because it is using a large number
of CPU minutes per day on jezebel. We need you to trim down your
resource consumption considerably. Should you ignore this or subsequent warnings your
account may be moved to an evaluation server which could cause downtime.Specifically your CPU minute usage for today is 100.63.
DreamHost gives me a ridiculously huge bandwidth and disk space limit, which I’m nowhere near reaching. There’s no way anyone could reach that limit without using too much CPU time unless they’re simply hosting large media files.
I’ve done as much as I can to attempt to reduce the CPU usage, including reducing the number of articles on the front page, removing blocks, disabling features, and increasing the throttle level. I’m using a standard installation of Drupal 4.6.3 with no unusual modules, but the site gets around 30,000 hits a day. If anyone else is hosting a Drupal site with that amount of activity at DreamHost, are they also getting those warnings?
A First
For the first time WorldBeatPlanet has more users online than MacMegasite.
