Universal has a new web

Universal has a new web site to address questions & problems related to copy protected CDs.

Some excerpts:

Why have you copy-protected the CD?

UMG is incorporating copy protection into their CDs to assess its viability in protecting the rights of our artists and copyright holders by preventing CD copying and illegal Internet distribution

Can I play this disc in my PC?

The CD will play in PCs that meet the following minimum system requirements: PC with at least Pentium¨ 133mHz or compatible processor, 32 MB RAM, CD-ROM drive, soundcard and speakers, Microsoft ¨Windows95¨, Windows98¨, Windows2000¨, Windows ME¨, Windows XP¨ or Windows NT 4 ¨ with Service Pack 4.

The CD should automatically start playing in most PCs. If it does not start playing in yours, open the CD-ROM drive’s window and click on the music player application. Once in the player you can “Play” or open the “Playlist”, choose a track and click on it.

You can provide feedback at umg@umusic.com .

Notice that they don’t mention Macintosh

Are you considering buying a

Are you considering buying a new PDA or upgrading your current device? The Palm has been around for a while. It is a proven and efficient OS. Many, many apps have been deployed to this platform. Additionally, many hardware components have been developed as well. Palm has even introduced a new conduit that is OS X enhanced. I have been testing the Palm Desktop public beta and I like it. I am beginning to wonder, “Who needs Entourage?” [Radio X Neophyte]

A few months ago I replaced my old Palm III with a Visor Prism. I love the color screen and the USB cradle syncs a lot more reliably than my old Palm did with a Keyspan PDA Adapter.

A few times I’ve seen an error when I sync saying that it can’t access the user data file. When that happens, Palm Desktop also won’t show my data. Going to the terminal window and killing the Palm Desktop Background process fixes the problem.

I’m planning to get a Visor Phone to go along with it so I won’t have to schlep both a cell phone and my Visor wherever I go as I do now.

NYT.  Video pirates.  This quote is classic:

“We’re fighting our own terrorist war,” said Mr. Valenti, whose lawyers sent 54,000 letters to Internet service providers last year requesting the removal of copyrighted material from customers’ Web sites. The association also regularly refers cases to law enforcement officials and assisted the Customs Service in an antipiracy campaign that included raids on college campuses last month. “The great moat that protects us, and it is only temporary, is lack of broadband access,” Mr. Valenti said. He’s overreacting (a huge understatement 🙂

I just set up 2

I just set up 2 blogger sites for my client, using YACCS to provide a user comment feature.

One of the sites needs to use frames, and with blogger I can easily direct the output to a page which isn’t the site’s main page and have it displayed within a frame. They’re currently hosted on blogspot, but I can easily move them somewhere else.

I've been asked to develop

I’ve been asked to develop two Manila sites for a new client. However, he wants the site structured to use frames. After searching the Manila site, I found that Manila doesn’t support frames.

Does anyone know of a good work-around, perhaps using inline frames? If you do, email me.
