I probably won't be writing

I probably won’t be writing too much here in the next few days. I’m pretty busy with work & trying to keep up macmegasite, which has seen a surge in activity recently with frequent mentions on MacSurfer. I need to try to post at least one article a day so visitors won’t lose interest.

I’ve also been busy helping out friends with various personal matters.

I noticed that my system

I noticed that my system seemed extremely sluggish, so I ran top. It showed that iCal was using 47% of the CPU. After I quit iCal my system was once again very fast & responsive.

Has anyone else seen this?

I just received the 2

I just received the 2 Antibalas CDs I ordered.

ANTIBALAS IS…

A diverse cooperative of music makers in Brooklyn, USA dedicated to making original revolutionary Afrobeat music inspired by the chief priest Fela Anikulapo-Kuti as well as other visionary artists, musicians and thinkers.

Antibalas is more than just a band. It aims to be a movement in an era where the pursuit of money and fame has ruined the souls and work of our fellow humans.

Antibalas is trying to lead by example as a functioning co-operative entity. We encourage you to try to do the same, be it as a musical group, food co-op, intentional community, credit union, etc.

Morons in the News: Vote

Morons in the News: Vote Fraud Criminals “Take Back Miami Dade” Alleges Vote was Fraudulent. Attention Take Back Miami Dade: it is now time for you to slink off to the corner with your tail between your legs. [Morons Dot Org]

Ironically, the voting irregularities probably worked in their favor, making the defeat narrower than expected, since many of the late or missing ballots were from areas that were strongly against the measure.

My G4 just locked up

My G4 just locked up on me when I quit from OmniWeb SP3. Command-Option-Escape didn’t work, and I wasn’t able to SSH to it or even ping it from my iBook. There wasn’t any Kernel Panic screen.

Thanks to Josef Wankerl I

Thanks to Josef Wankerl I was able to recover that file. It seems that if the flattened resource file also has a “real” resource fork, Constructor gets confused and tries to use resources from the resource fork.

I still found lots of problems with flattened resource files in Constructor. Doing a save is like playing Russian roulette – after I save some of my layouts would end up corrupted or changes wouldn’t be saved.

I think I might be better off just working with real resource files and saving as a flattened file just to check into my CVS repository.

This is why resource forks (as well as types & creators) have to go. Some applications use them and others don’t, and some get completely screwed up by their presence or absence. As long as they’re supported halfway, we’re going to have these kinds of problems. Apple needs to bite the bullet and either support them all the way or get rid of them completely.

I just found that PowerPlant

I just found that PowerPlant Constructor 2.5.5 won’t properly read a flattened resource file, even though it’s read properly when I buld my application and all of the PPOBs in it work properly. I now have no way to edit it.
